This section will teach you to control the HelenOS console. The console is currently the primary way of interacting with the system.

Switching virtual consoles

Press the F1-F11 keys to switch between individual virtual consoles. On a debug/developer build pressing F12 will take you to the kernel console.

If you are using a hi-res graphical console, you can see color circles with VC numbers in them. If this is the case, you can change the active VC by clicking on one of the numbered circles with your left mouse button.

Switching keyboard layouts

You can switch keyboard layouts with Ctrl-Shift-Fn strokes as follows:

Keystroke Layout
Ctrl-Shift-F1 US QWERTY
Ctrl-Shift-F2 US Dvorak
Ctrl-Shift-F3 Czech QWERTZ
