HelenOS is a Google Summer of Code 2011 mentoring organization!

We are pleased to announce that HelenOS has been accepted for this year's Google Summer of Code program as a mentoring organization. In the Google Summer of Code, university and college students work during the summer break and contribute code to open source projects represented by the accepted mentoring organizations. During the duration of the program, Google provides stipends to successful students that sum up to $5000 at the end of the program.

We suggest that students who take interest in HelenOS visit our list of project ideas and look for inspiration there. Remember that the list merely consists of prefabricated project suggestions. According to Google, some of the most successful proposals from the previous years have been completely new ideas submitted by students, so don't be afraid to take initiative and unleash your imagination.

We would like to invite prospective students to demonstrate their abilities and determination to work on a HelenOS project during the Google Summer of Code 2011 by completing a simple HelenOS task before the student application deadline on April 8. The task should involve building the latest mainline and either fixing a simple bug or contributing an improvement over the current HelenOS behavior.
